European MP says Moldova has opportunity to break away from the harmful influence of East, take rightful place in European family
MEP Dan Barna today was elected as Vice-President of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU–Moldova Association Committee. The official emphasized that, in his new role, he would ensure that “Moldova’s voice is heard loudly in the European Parliament.”.
Dan Barna stressed that Moldova was facing an extraordinary window of opportunity to break away from the influence of the East and take its rightful place in the European family.
“I thank my colleagues for their trust, but above all, I see this vote as a responsibility at a historic moment. The history of Europe is now being written on our eastern border. Moldova is facing an extraordinary window of opportunity to break away definitively from the harmful influence of the East and to take its rightful place in the European family. My role and the one of the Delegation will not be just to tick boxes in reports, but to be real partners for Chisinau,” the official noted.
The MEP said that, in Brussels, he would advocate for accelerating the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the EU.
“The negotiations must be technically rigorous, but driven by a clear political ambition: irreversible integration. Thus, we will provide assistance for the necessary reforms in justice and the economy, as well as in the fight against hybrid warfare and disinformation. I am here to make sure that Moldova’s voice is heard loudly in the European Parliament and that our brothers across the Prut are not alone on this path,” Dan Barna said.
Also today, MEP Siegfried Muresan informed that the European lawmakers would provide support to the Moldovan MPs in transposing European legislation and in preparing Moldova for EU accession.
