Alexandru Munteanu, after appointing Eugeniu Osmochescu as interim prime minister: I have full confidence that he will ensure continuity of Government’s activity with responsibility
Eugeniu Osmochescu will serve as interim prime minister of the Republic of Moldova starting July 8. Alexandru Munteanu thanked Eugeniu Osmochescu for accepting this responsibility and expressed confidence that he will ensure the continuity of the Government’s activity with responsibility.
“Starting tomorrow, in accordance with the decree signed by President Maia Sandu, the interim office of prime minister will be held by Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Osmochescu. I thank him for accepting this responsibility and wish him much success in this mission. I have full confidence that he will ensure the continuity of the Government’s activity with responsibility,” declared Alexandru Munteanu.
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu today signed the decree appointing Eugeniu Osmochescu as interim prime minister. He will exercise the duties of head of Government starting July 8, 2026, until a new Cabinet is formed.
Under the law, Eugeniu Osmochescu will lead the Government during the transition period, after former prime minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation.
This week, the head of state is to hold consultations with parliamentary factions to nominate a candidate for the office of prime minister. Subsequently, the nominated candidate will have to present to Parliament the government program and the list of the future Cabinet of Ministers in order to obtain a vote of confidence.
