Speaker after drone explosion in Ivancea: We categorically condemn and will continue to condemn every illegal overflight of our airspace

Speaker Igor Grosu condemned the illegal overflight of the Republic of Moldova’s airspace after a drone exploded last night near Ivancea–Brănești road in Orhei district, less than 50 kilometers from Chișinău.

“Less than 50 km from Chișinău, on the Ivancea–Brănești road in Orhei, a Russian drone exploded last night,” Igor Grosu wrote.

According to the information presented by the Speaker, the unmanned aircraft exploded after hitting trees in a forest strip. The blast created a crater approximately 50 centimeters in diameter and about 30 centimeters deep.

“Within a radius of approximately 30 meters, damage to the trees caused by the blast wave was found, as well as traces characteristic of the thermal effect. It was also preliminarily established that the drone contained elements specific to the ‘Geran’ type, with a turbojet engine. The competent services intervened at the scene, and road traffic was restricted for the duration of the investigation.”

Igor Grosu said that no one was injured in the explosion.

“We categorically condemn and will continue to condemn every illegal overflight of our airspace. We cannot and must not normalize such incidents, especially when they are occurring increasingly closer to our communities and people,” Igor Grosu said.

The Speaker thanked the institutions that intervened at the scene and urged citizens to remain vigilant and follow the recommendations of the authorities.
