CEC: 15 candidates enter race for mayoral positions in November local elections

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that 15 candidates have been registered for mayoral positions in the new local elections scheduled for November 1, 2026. Five of them are women and ten are men, while eight candidates were nominated by political parties and seven are running as independents.

According to the CEC, the candidates were registered in five localities. Three candidates each have registered in the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district, and in the town of Costești, Rîșcani district.

Four candidates will compete for the position of mayor in the village of Cairaclia, Taraclia district, and in the village of Chirsova, Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. In the village of Novosiolovca, Taraclia district, one candidate has been registered.

Fifteen electoral contestants have been registered for the position of councilor on the local council of the village of Tomai, Gagauzia. They include a list of candidates nominated by a political party and 14 people running as independents.

In the village of Delacău, Anenii Noi district, where a local referendum will be held on November 1, no referendum participant has been registered.

On November 1, new local elections will be held in the villages of Cairaclia and Novosiolovca in Taraclia district, the town of Costești in Rîșcani district, the village of Hăsnășenii Mari in Drochia district, as well as in the villages of Tomai and Chirsova in Gagauzia. On the same day, a local referendum will be held in the village of Delacău, Anenii Noi district.
