Ethics Committee likely to be set up in Parliament

Parliament could establish an Ethics Committee with the participation of civil society, as part of efforts to increase transparency and integrity in the legislative process. The measure is included in the package of reforms targeted by the Clean Parliament Charter 2025, launched today in Chisinau.

"We are working on updating the rules regarding the status, conduct, and ethics of Members of Parliament, including the establishment of an Ethics Committee with the participation of civil society and the prevention of conflicts of interest. Starting in February, we will also resume public consultations for modernizing Parliament’s Regulations," announced Speaker Igor Grosu.

He specified that today, within the Legislature, the Clean Parliament Charter 2025 was launched – an important tool for assessing integrity, transparency, and good governance in Parliament.

"For this legislature, together with my colleagues in Parliament and in the Government, we aim to improve the legal framework and ensure a more open and fair legislative process," Grosu added.

In the same context, Parliament is working on updating the rules regarding the status, conduct, and responsibilities of Members of Parliament. Igor Grosu also announced that in February public consultations will be resumed for modernizing Parliament’s Regulations – a process considered essential for making internal procedures more transparent.
