Foreign Minister attends Moldova Security Forum 2025

External forces attempt to use democratic freedoms to weaken the cohesion of Moldovan society, but the authorities have protected democratic processes and citizens' freedoms with the support of international partners. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statements at Moldova Security Forum 2025, where he emphasized the country's resilience and the role of partners in strengthening security.

‘Despite all efforts by the Kremlin to undermine the territorial integrity and political stability of the Republic of Moldova, they have not succeeded. This is the result of the resilience of our population, as well as the support and solidarity of international partners. The Republic of Moldova is stronger and more resilient today than it was one, three, or even five years ago,’ Mihai Popșoi stated.

The official explained how the Kremlin tries to use democratic freedoms to divide society.

‘They do not allow these freedoms in their own country but try to use them here to spread ideas of hatred. We have managed to withstand these pressures while respecting the interests of the Republic of Moldova and strengthening ties with our brothers from Romania, with Ukraine, and with partners from the EU and NATO,’ the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned.

Mihai Popșoi also highlighted the institutional progress of the Republic of Moldova, stating that the country has become the first in the world to benefit from a defense and security partnership with the European Union. He mentioned that national defense and cybersecurity strategies have been adopted and that the Republic of Moldova is strengthening cooperation with NATO, leveraging the opportunities offered by the Partnership for Peace.

Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the authorities in Chișinău are pursuing a sustainable and peaceful resolution of the issue in the Transnistrian region.

‘We want to send a message of caution and resolve the Transnistrian region issue in a sustainable and peaceful manner. It is in our interest to create possibilities for economic and political reintegration while at the same time protecting our citizens' freedoms,’ Mihai Popșoi concluded.

Today, the second edition of the Moldova Security Forum is organized in Chișinău. The event brings together officials from the Republic of Moldova and partner states, representatives of NATO and the European Union, experts, members of civil society, and the academic community. During the event, participants are to analyze emerging risks, identify current vulnerabilities, and formulate common solutions and strategic responses to strengthen national and regional resilience.
