Electoral period begins for new local elections and local referendum on 17 May

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has announced that the electoral period for the new local elections and the local referendum of 17 May starts today.

According to the CEC, during the period the establishment and organization of the activity of lower-level electoral bodies is envisaged, the registration of candidates for the position of mayor and local councillor, as well as of participants in the referendum, the creation and organization of polling stations, the updating and publication of electoral rolls, informing voters and training electoral officials, organizing the voting process and compiling the final results of the ballot.

Under the legal provisions, the electoral period will end once the election results are confirmed and the mandates are validated.

New local elections will be held in the village of Costești and the commune of Ruseștii Noi in Ialoveni district, the village of Mașcăuți, Criuleni district, the commune of Sărătenii Vechi, Telenești district, the town of Taraclia in Taraclia district, the municipality of Orhei, Orhei district, the village of Topala, Cimișlia district, the village of Copceac, Gagauzia, the village of Plop, Dondușeni district, and the commune of Frumușica, Florești district. The local referendum on the recall of the mayor will be held in the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district.
