Norway to open Embassy in Chișinău

The Kingdom of Norway will open a resident embassy in Chișinău, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral relations with the Republic of Moldova. The announcement was made in Munich, Germany, during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi and his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide.

According to the officials, the opening of a resident diplomatic mission in Chișinău reflects the deepening of Moldovan–Norwegian relations and the interest of both states in closer cooperation in areas of common interest.

The new embassy will contribute to the more efficient implementation of joint projects and to intensified cooperation in sectors such as energy, resilience, good governance, and support for the European integration path of the Republic of Moldova.

“Opening a resident embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Chișinău is a strong signal of confidence and of strengthening the relations between our states,” said Popșoi.

Following the bilateral dialogue, the verbal note on establishment of the diplomatic mission was handed over to State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Carolina Perebinos.

Currently, the Kingdom of Norway is accredited to the Republic of Moldova through the Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest, while a territorial office, opened last year is operating in Chișinău.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Norway were established in 1992.
