Government approves new cooperation plan with NATO

The cabinet of ministers approved a new cooperation plan with NATO for 2025 – 2028 on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document has been regularly updated over the past 20 years, initially named IPAP, now called the Individual Partnership Program (ITPP), and fully respects our country's constitutional neutrality while providing benefits through technical cooperation and training.

Through the program, the Republic of Moldova will receive support to combat cyber attacks, disinformation and other modern risks. Thus, our country follows the example of other neutral states like Austria, Switzerland and Ireland, which are militarily neutral and collaborate with NATO to protect infrastructure, improve public sector and better respond to hybrid threats.

Public security officials will benefit from modern training. Additionally, women will have increased opportunities to advance in their careers, and gender equality will be promoted.

Diplomacy in Chișinău notes that although NATO is primarily known as a military alliance, collaboration with the Republic of Moldova is focused on reforming the security sector, solving critical infrastructure issues and technical training. The partnership does not include participation in missions other than those with a UN mandate or obligations that violate the country's neutrality.

According to the ministry, the document complies with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which guarantees the status of neutrality.

"Just as other neutral countries collaborate for their safety, Moldova uses this relationship to protect its citizens," the institution's press release reads.
