The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has issued an orange and yellow weather warning for the entire country, valid from February 17, 20:00 to February 18, 17:00. The authorities advise citizens to be cautious and follow safety measures.

"Targeted phenomena: Orange code – in the affected areas, heavy precipitation in the form of snow and sleet is expected, amounting to 20–35 l/m²; Yellow code – in other areas, significant snowfall is forecast, with accumulations between 7 and 19 l/m². At the same time, the north‑westerly wind will blow with gusts of 15–20 m/s, causing blizzards, reduced visibility and snowdrifts. Roads are expected to be icy, and in some localities sleet and glaze ice may form," SHS says.

Recommendations for the public and drivers

Avoid non‑essential travel during blizzards and heavy snowfall.

If you are driving, adjust your speed to road conditions and keep a safe distance between vehicles.

Make sure vehicles are properly equipped for the cold season.

Vulnerable individuals are advised to stay indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to cold.

The State Hydrometeorological Service will continuously monitor the evolution of weather phenomena and warnings and maps will be updated according to the intensity and extent of precipitation and wind.

"This warning highlights the importance of adequate preparedness for severe weather conditions and the adoption of preventive measures to protect life and property," meteorologists conclude.
