Moldova, United Arab Emirates launch bilateral consular dialogue
The Republic of Moldova and the United Arab Emirates held in Abu Dhabi the first round of bilateral consular consultations, marking the beginning of an official dialogue in the consular field.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegations were headed by Lilian Moraru, Head of the Consular Affairs Department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, and Rashid Rahma, Head of the Consular Services Department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.
During the discussions, the parties addressed improving the efficiency of consular services, the digitalization of procedures, as well as the establishment of rapid response mechanisms in exceptional situations, aimed at ensuring the protection and assistance of citizens of both countries.
An important point of the consultations was the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the mutual recognition and conversion of driving licences, signed on 3 February in Dubai. The sides agreed on the necessary measures for the effective application of the agreement, facilitating simple and efficient procedures for citizens.
The consultations highlighted the need for a constant exchange of information and best practices and set the next round of discussions to take place in Chisinau in 2027, in order to continue practical cooperation in the consular sector.
