Moldova honored with Refugee Host Country Leadership Award for support provided to Ukrainian refugees
The Republic of Moldova has been honored with the Refugee Host Country Leadership Award, a prestigious prize awarded by Wilson Center’s Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative (RAFDI). The award recognizes the exemplary solidarity and generosity proved by Moldovan citizens in managing the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, despite limited resources, the Moldova has demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting and supporting those who fled the conflict and Moldovan citizens have shown exemplary solidarity, humanity and generosity in the face of one of Europe’s largest humanitarian crises.
According to the cited source, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, over 1.4 million refugees have transited Moldova and about 135,000 continue to stay in the country. Moldovan officials reaffirm the country's commitment to peace, dignity and security, both for its citizens and for those who have found refuge on the country’s territory.
