Moldovan Ambassador to US: We are credible partner for US in region undergoing profound geopolitical transformations
The Republic of Moldova is a credible partner for the United States of America in a region that is undergoing profound geopolitical transformations. Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the US Vladislav Kulminski made the statement for Radio Moldova. The official described the relationship between the two states as “respectful and very strong”.
“The entire policy of the United States is going through a profound review process. It does not refer only to the Republic of Moldova. The whole region is going through a very serious process of geopolitical redistribution. And, of course, the relationship of the United States with practically all states in the world cannot remain the same. This relationship is being rewritten over time with every state. And this is the process in which our diplomacy must know how to protect our national interest. Because the world we live in now is not a world of values, but a world of national interests. And we must know and be skillful enough to protect our national interest,” the Ambassador stated.
The Ambassador stressed that the United States remains a very important security partner for the Republic of Moldova.
“We have this very strong relationship with the United States because we have a shared commitment, practically, and what we have managed to obtain in the last 4–5 months is a firm commitment from the United States that security and peace in the Republic of Moldova are very important and represent a common task for both countries. That the United States has done and continues to do everything possible to prevent the war from spreading, from being extended to other states, including the Republic of Moldova. And thanks to this dialogue with the United States, we have managed to obtain many things,” Vladislav Kulminski underlined.
The official pointed out that several bilateral visits are planned for 2026, including in the areas of security and energy. He mentioned that further details about these visits will be provided later.
Vladislav Kulminski also referred to Strășeni–Gutinaș Power Line project, for the construction of which the US is providing 130 million dollars.
“There are very few states that have obtained such investments. Because we are no longer talking about aid, we are talking about investments, about partnerships. If we recalculate the volume of these investments per capita in the Republic of Moldova, we will probably be among the top partner countries of the United States from this point of view. It is a major investment of 130 million dollars, which is crucial for the Republic of Moldova,” the ambassador concluded.
The 400 kV Strășeni–Gutinaș overhead power line project is a strategic investment in the energy infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova, aimed at improving the stability of the national power system, increasing transfer capacity, and ensuring a secure supply of electricity. This line is part of broader efforts to modernize the transmission network and interconnect it with the energy systems of neighboring countries.
