Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry says condemns any incident representing infringement of airspace, threat to citizens’ security

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) firmly condemns any incident that may represent am infringement of the country’s airspace and a potential threat to the security of citizens. The message was delivered today following the detection of a drone nearby the village of Sofia, northern Drochia district.

The MAE emphasized that it was closely monitoring developments, in coordination with the relevant national institutions.

“Moldova reaffirms its commitment to protecting its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of its citizens. The Foreign Affairs Ministry is closely monitoring developments, in coordination with the competent national institutions. We reiterate our call to the population to follow the instructions of the authorities, avoid approaching suspicious objects and immediately inform the competent bodies, if such objects are detected,” the MAE said.

A drone today was detected outside the built-up area of the village of Sofia in Drochia district, in the direction of the Lazo settlement. The perimeter is secured, and experts from the Technical and Explosives Section are to examine the object.

The case is being documented and the circumstances are to be established by the competent authorities.
