Moldovan head of state notifies Constitutional Court as to parliament's dissolution
Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, at a today’s news briefing, said that she had submitted a notification to the Constitutional Court (CCM), for finding out the circumstances necessary for the parliament’s dissolution.
„If the Constitutional Court ascertains these circumstances, then I will dissolve the parliament and we will resort to the people’s judgement,’’ Maia Sandu said.
According to the head of state, the parliament failed to elect a government in two attempts, in 45 days after the first request for swearing in office and more than three months have passed since the resignation of the Chicu Government. ‘’Just as the experts in constitutional law, I believe that the legal circumstances are met for the parliament’s dissolution,’’ the Moldovan president said.
The head of state stressed that the present parliament was compromised and ‘’the MPs declaring their care for the people vote laws against Moldova’s citizens.’’ ‘’These lawmakers do not look for solutions for people, but solve their own problems and the snap elections represent a chance for the country to get rid of corruption,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The Moldovan president made this statement following the today’s consultations with two of the parliamentary groups and factions – Shor Party and For Moldova Platform, as well as the Party of Socialists. The president met representatives of other factions on 26 March.
