Prime Minister’s message to Năsui and Osmochescu: They have difficult but very important mandates

Ministers Claudiu Năsui and Eugeniu Osmochescu have difficult but very important mandates. The Government will support them in the reforms they propose, for a stronger economy and a state that works better for the people, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said in his message to the new Ministers of Economic Development and Digitalisation and of Agriculture and Food Industry during the swearing-in ceremony.

The Head of Government stressed that the two have complicated missions, but ones that are essential for the goals of the new Cabinet, focused on economic development and making the state more efficient.

“They have difficult but very important mandates. The Government will support them in the reforms they propose, for a stronger economy and a state that works better for the people,” said Vasile Tofan.

The Prime Minister explained that the Government’s programme has a clear mandate, and the priorities are centred on developing a European economy and an efficient state.

“Our Government came with a very clear mandate. And the name of the programme says exactly what our priorities are. There are four words and each of these words is very important: European economy, efficient state,” Tofan said.

In the Prime Minister’s view, the appointment of Claudiu Năsui as Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation and of Eugeniu Osmochescu as Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry reflects the priority given to economic development.

“We need an economy that grows faster. We need more investments, companies that can compete and export, and bold changes wherever things can work better,” the Prime Minister said.

Tofan underlined that economic development must be closely linked to the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

“We will achieve all this while firmly continuing our path of European integration. For us, European integration and economic development go hand in hand. It means better rules, better institutions and a more competitive economy,” the Head of Government said.

Another objective announced by the Prime Minister is increasing the efficiency of the state apparatus by reducing waste and bureaucracy.

“We must reduce waste, bureaucracy and processes that consume time and money without bringing sufficient value to people. We need a leaner state, quicker and more attentive to the needs of citizens and entrepreneurs,” Tofan said.

In this context, the Prime Minister highlighted the role of the new Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation in reforming the relationship between the state and the economy, including with regard to state-owned enterprises and the management of public assets.

“Mr Năsui has the competence and courage to move these reforms forward—important reforms to simplify the relationship between the state and the economy,” Tofan noted.

On agriculture, the Prime Minister called for a results-oriented approach and for the most efficient possible use of public money.

“Our resources are limited, and every leu of subsidy must generate as great an impact as possible for farmers and for the country’s economy,” Tofan said.

The official pointed out that agriculture is facing structural changes and climate challenges, and therefore support policies must be adapted to the new conditions.

“Agriculture is going through major structural changes and climate challenges, and we must adapt the policies and tools at our disposal to this new reality,” the Prime Minister said.

Vasile Tofan expressed his confidence that Eugeniu Osmochescu’s experience in the economic field and in international financial institutions will help attract new funds for the agricultural sector and use them more efficiently.

“Mr Osmochescu can help both in attracting new funds for our agriculture and in using them as efficiently and with as great an impact as possible,” Vasile Tofan said.

At the end of his speech, the Prime Minister wished the two ministers success and asked them to turn their mandates into concrete results for the economy, agriculture and citizens.

The new Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, Claudiu Năsui, and the new Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Eugeniu Osmochescu, took their oaths of office today. The ceremony took place at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, in the presence of the Head of State Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
