Turkish Ambassador to Chișinău awarded by Foreign Minister at end of term

Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of Moldova Uygar Mustafa Sertel received Diplomatic Merit Medal, Class II, from Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi during a farewell meeting held in Chișinău to mark the end of the Turkish diplomat's term.

The two officials discussed the evolution of bilateral relations in recent years, focusing on economic cooperation, trade exchanges and joint projects in the education and culture sectors.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trade between the Republic of Moldova and Türkiye exceeded 478 million euros in the first five months of 2026. In the same period, Moldovan exports to Türkiye increased by almost 25% compared to the similar period of the previous year.

Mihai Popșoi praised Ambassador Uygar Mustafa Sertel’s contribution to deepening the political dialogue between the two countries, intensifying Moldovan–Turkish relations and strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Türkiye.

The distinction was awarded to the Turkish diplomat for his merits in promoting and developing cooperation between the two states.

Uygar Mustafa Sertel expressed gratitude for the award and the cooperation with the authorities of the Republic of Moldova during his mandate.

In closing, the Moldovan official wished the Turkish ambassador success in his future professional activity.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Türkiye were established on 3 February 1992.
