Local referendum to recall mayor of Sadîc scheduled for May

Residents of Sadîc village, Cantemir district are expected to go to the polls on 17 May 2026 to decide through a local referendum on the recall of the mayor.

The decision was adopted by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), which announced that the referendum will take place simultaneously with other new local elections planned for the same day.

According to the CEC, the initiation of the procedure was preceded by the establishment of an initiative group made up of 22 people. The group collected signatures to trigger the referendum, and following the verification of the submitted lists and documents, the Commission found that the required number of signatures for organizing the local plebiscite had been met.

On 17 May 2026, new local elections will be organized in several localities across the country, including in the village of Costești and the commune of Ruseștii Noi in Ialoveni district, the village of Mașcăuți in Criuleni district, the commune of Sărătenii Vechi in Telenești district, the town of Taraclia in Taraclia district, the municipality of Orhei in Orhei district, the village of Topala in Cimișlia district, the village of Copceac in Gagauzia, the village of Plop in Dondușeni district, and the commune of Frumușica in Florești district. Also on 17 May, a local referendum on recalling the mayor of the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district will be held.
