No political advertising on TikTok: platform strengthens rules for electoral campaign in Moldova

The TikTok has announced a string of measures aimed at enhancing user safety and preventing the spread of misinformation, before the parliamentary elections in Moldova. These measures include the establishment of a Mission Control Center and the launch of an in-app Electoral Center, developed in partnership with the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

The head of CEC's communication, public relations and media department, Rodica Sîrbu, told MOLDPRES that the Electoral Center was part of the partnership established with TikTok, focusing on better and accurate informing of voters in the context of the next autumn elections.

Thus, the new Electoral Center will facilitate voters’ access to reliable information regarding the electoral process, including key data, registration procedures, and additional resources. At the same time, educational content made with the organization, Stop Fals!, will help users identify fake news and interact responsibly with information.

To direct as many users as possible to this Center, TikTok will apply electoral labels to relevant content and integrate results into search functions. TikTok informs that, in previous campaigns, before the presidential elections and the referendum, the similar center was accessed over 85,000 times.

The platform also announced the strengthening of measures to combat misinformation through collaboration with over 20 international fact-checking organizations, including Reuters, and by monitoring the Romanian content with local moderators.

Also, TikTok confirmed that, in 2025, it had removed three networks with over 400 accounts promoting political content in a coordinated way.

At the same time, the platform reiterated that paid political advertising was prohibited, with accounts belonging to parties or politicians being subject to additional transparency and verification rules.
