PHOTO // Moldova strengthens dialogue with European Parliament, in context of European integration

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has had a string of meetings with members of the European Parliament during his working visit to Brussels. The discussions focused on the European path of Moldova and the support provided by the European Union.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Moldovan diplomacy head held talks with Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu and Nicolae Stefanuta; Chairs of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence and the European Democratic Shield David McAllister, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann and Nathalie Loiseau; Co-President of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Sergey Lagodinsky; as well as with Members of the European Parliament Petras Auštrevičius, Dan Barna, Sven Mikser and Eugen Tomac.

The participants in the discussions addressed the priorities of Moldova in the process of European integration, with emphasis on continuing reforms and making full use of the support provided by the European Union, as well as on the importance of deepening political and institutional cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi appreciated the consistency of the European Parliament in supporting the European path of Moldova and in backing efforts to strengthen the resilience of the country in the context of the challenges generated by the Russian Federation’s aggression war against Ukraine.

“I thanked the Members of the European Parliament for their constant support for our country – from backing reforms to their essential contribution to the Growth Plan for Moldova. This support enables us to consolidate state institutions, develop the economy and advance more rapidly in aligning with European standards,” noted Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The participants in the talks welcomed the opening in 2025 of the European Parliament Office in Chisinau was welcomed as a strong sign of closer ties. Mihai Popsoi underlined that this presence strengthened the link between Moldovan citizens and the institutions of the European Union and reflected a Moldova that is increasingly present in the European space.

For their part, the Members of the European Parliament praised the progress achieved by Moldova and reconfirmed the support of the European Parliament, which in 2025 materialized in the largest EU support package provided to the  country since independence. They also encouraged the Moldovan authorities to maintain the pace of implementing the measures necessary for accession to the European Union. Deputy PM Mihai Popsoi is paying a working visit to the institutions of the European Union headquartered in Brussels on February 2-4.
