PHOTO // Moldovan parliament speaker in Glodeni says caring for country's villages, towns stays priority
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has paid a working visit to the north-western Glodeni district. The official's agenda included discussions with mayors, local authorities’ representatives, citizens and economic agents of the region.
The working visit started with a meeting with mayors and local authorities’ representatives. They sides discussed ongoing projects and future plans.
“Caring for our villages and towns stays a priority, and for that, we must unite our efforts to work harder,” emphasized Igor Grosu.
In the last four years, significant investments have been made in the Glodeni district. For instance, 12 million lei was allocated for the modernization and equipping of the district hospital. At the same time, 6 km of water supply networks, 3 km of sewer networks, and 25 km of street lighting networks were built. Two photovoltaic power plants were set and 5 kindergartens, 5 gymnasiums, and a lyceum were modernized. Investments were also made in two playgrounds, three sports fields, a park, as well as the Community Centre and public library. Road infrastructure has also been a priority. Roads G25 Cobani, G24-Camenca, G 57 from Dusmani to Ciuciulea have been renovated. Further works are planned on the roads towards Costesti, Cobani, and Dusmani villages.
“These are concrete projects, and we will continue to invest. The important thing now is to continue on the path we've started - towards the great European family,” Igor Grosu stressed.
In Glodeni, the official visited the road connecting Hajdieni to Camenca. It had never been repaired before and thanks to a 20 million lei investment, citizens now have access to quality road infrastructure.
“The change has begun; it is visible, and it will continue. We have much to do, but together - with trust, patience and perseverance - we succeed in building a better future for all,” noted the parliament speaker.
Also in Glodeni, Igor Grosu visited the business of Vitalie Mahu, who has been selling pesticides and mineral fertilizers for over 24 years. To develop his business, Vitalie Mahu benefited from state subsidies.
At the same time, the parliament speaker discussed with locals in Cobani village about Moldova's European path and the projects implemented in the settlement. In recent years, the medical center, kindergarten, community centre have been renovated, and recently a pharmacy has been opened under the Pharmacy in Your Village governmental programme. Thus, Cobani village is among 100 localities where a pharmacy was opened for the first time thanks to this project.
“In Cobani village, I have met many positive, kind people who care about Moldova's future and support our European way. They proved this both at the referendum last autumn, during which they said YES to the European Union and through the multiple projects they undertake in the community,” said the parliament speaker.
Igor Grosu emphasized that, in recent years, Cobani locals had also been involved in promoting the region's unique tourism potential, as tourists can visit unique sites like Suta de Movile (One Hundred Hilllocks) , Stânca Mare (Big Rock), and the Butesti Gorges.
Additionally, the speaker met the Zamă brothers. Although they left the country many years ago, Alec, Victor, and Vasile return home increasingly often and organize various events in the village, providing financial support to children and the elderly in Cobani.
“With such united and involved communities, we will continue to develop Moldova for the benefit of people in all regions of our country,” Igor Grosu stressed.
During his visit to Glodeni district, the official congratulated veterans from across the country who participated in the Sports Fishing Championship. The speaker referred to the support measures for veterans voted by MPs. In last December, the parliament voted the Special Law whereby, for the first time, the state officially recognizes veterans' sacrifice and heroism, establishing the protection of their families as a priority. Moreover, the allowances granted were tripled.
“From our veterans, we learned, through their lived experiences, that unity is the strongest shield against those who would want us weak, divided, and easily manipulated. Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to do everything in our power to keep Moldova on the path of democracy, for which our parents, grandparents and veterans fought with faith, for sovereignty and independence,” Igor Grosu said.
The Glodeni district has 33 settlements. Its population is about 54,000 inhabitants, most of whom live in rural areas.
