Polling stations closed; about 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship participated in Romania's presidential elections

The polling stations opened in Moldova for Romania’s presidential elections closed at 21:00. About 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship have exercised their right to vote during three days.

Romanians from Moldova are among the most active voters in the Diaspora, following such countries as Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain. Over 972,000 Romanians from abroad voted in the presidential election in all by 21:00.

At these polls, the voter turnout in Moldova is higher than at the elections on November 24 last year, when approximately 81,000 Romanian citizens voted in our country.

On May 2, 3, and 4, Romanian citizens of Moldova were able to exercise their right to vote at 64 polling stations, which were open between 7:00 and 21:00 PM. In the northern region of the country, 18 polling stations were organized, in the central region - 38 polling stations, of which 20 were in the Chisinau city and in the southern region - 8 polling stations.

As many 965 polling stations were opened abroad for Romania’s presidential elections. Romanian citizens in the Diaspora had three days to vote. For the first round - May 2, 3, and 4, and in the case of a runoff - May 16, 17, and 18. Eleven candidates are participating in the presidential race.
