President: On Ukraine's Independence Day, we honor courage of neighboring people, who defend right to freedom every day

Head of state Maia Sandu today sent a message on marking Ukraine's Independence Day.

The president emphasized that on this day we honor the courage of our neighboring people, who defend their right to freedom every day.

'Today, on Ukraine's Independence Day, we honor the courage of our neighboring people, who defend their right to freedom every day. Standing up to the barbaric aggression, Ukrainians prevent the war from expanding, thus protecting our peace and sovereignty as well', wrote Maia Sandu on her official Facebook page.

Ukraine is marking National Day today. The event commemorates the moment of adopting the Declaration of Independence from the USSR on August 24, 1991.

For the fourth consecutive year, Ukraine is marking Independence Day against the backdrop of a devastating war, started by the Russian Federation in February 2022.
