Speaker's message on Ukraine's Independence Day

We all wish for a free, independent and peaceful Ukraine, Speaker Igor Grosu said. He congratulated the neighboring country on Independence Day.

"Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! Happy Independence Day, Ukrainians! We all wish for a free, independent, and peaceful Ukraine. I am convinced that Ukraine will prevail, I believe in the Ukrainian people. Glory to Ukraine!" Igor Grosu said.

A congratulatory message for Ukraine was also sent by head of state Maia Sandu, who mentioned that on this day, we honor the courage of the neighboring people who defend their right to freedom every day.

Today, Ukraine marks National Day. The event commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from the USSR on August 24, 1991.

For the fourth consecutive year, Ukraine marks Independence Day against the backdrop of a devastating war launched by the Russian Federation in February 2022.

On the evening of Saturday, August 23, on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day, the building of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, in solidarity with the neighboring country.
