Kingdom of the Netherlands reaffirms support for Moldova’s accession to European Union

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a phone conversation today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Tom Berendsen, during which they discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation and support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions focused on strengthening Moldovan–Dutch relations and expanding sectoral cooperation, with an emphasis on areas such as institutional resilience and cybersecurity. They are considered essential for enhancing the state’s capacity to cope with current challenges and for increasing the safety of citizens.

During the conversation, the chief diplomat from Chișinău congratulated his Dutch counterpart on his recent appointment and wished success in carrying out the mandate. At the same time, Popșoi reviewed the developments regarding the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the priorities on the authorities’ agenda in the accession to the European Union.

The Moldovan minister expressed gratitude for the support offered by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the European integration, including for backing the opening of technical negotiations on all chapter groups.

For his part, Tom Berendsen reaffirmed the Netherlands’ support for Moldova’s accession to the European Union and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation in areas of common interest.

The two officials agreed to maintain an active dialogue and to make use of existing opportunities to strengthen the Moldovan–Dutch partnership for the benefit of the citizens of both states.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were established on 10 July 1992.

According to the Public Services Agency, 143 enterprises with capital from the Kingdom of the Netherlands operate in the Republic of Moldova. The amount of invested capital is 2.6 billion lei. Thus, the Kingdom of the Netherlands ranks third among the main foreign investors in the Republic of Moldova by investment volume.
