Promo-LEX warns about networks of fake accounts manipulating votes on TikTok

Promo-LEX team has identified a massive network of fake accounts on TikTok, which distribute false or inauthentic narratives using the hashtag #alegmoldova, quickly reaching trending and getting 1.3 million views in just 72 hours. According to the organization, this growth does not reflect real popularity or authentic support, according to Promo-LEX report.

The network includes 25 core accounts, later multiplied into almost 500 additional accounts, which distribute the same videos, graphics, and messages, creating the impression of a majority. The content is generated by artificial intelligence, and some accounts use profile images with national elements to appear authentic.

Promo-LEX warns that the accounts operate with military discipline:

“They obsessively post only two hashtags: #alegmoldova and #moldova, even though TikTok platform allows posting five hashtags. The deliberate choice of these two tags seems to have a well-determined purpose, namely manipulating TikTok algorithm to force the posts into trending.”

Among the promoted narratives are:

  • the false link between EU accession and LGBTQ community, portrayed as an objective of President Maia Sandu;
  • attacks with false elements on the government and oligarchs, including claims about “illegal transportation of appliances” and “unpaid taxes”;
  • manipulation through an AI-falsified TV presenter calling voters to vote against the ruling party;
  • denigration of public figures through association with comedians and labeling them with serious accusations.

The network can be identified through uniform account patterns, replication of the same videos and graphics, and mechanical usernames like “mine3”, “boot1”, showing fabricated identities. Most of these accounts do not follow anyone and are not followed, confirming the artificial nature of the network.

Promo-LEX emphasizes that such practices undermine people’s trust:

“Instead of public opinion being formed through debate and arguments, it is distorted by a large volume of inauthentic content. Such networks undermine people’s trust in the online space and in the electoral process.”

The material is part of the Observation Mission of the parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025, supported by Sweden, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the French Embassy and the Council of Europe, under the aegis of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections.
