Slovenia, Moldova to boost cooperation, to help Moldova advance on European integration way
Slovenia will stand with Moldova on the European integration way and will provide the country with every support in this process and the cooperation between the two countries will be boosted. President of the National Assembly (parliament) of Slovenia Urška Klakočar Zupančič, on a visit to Moldova, made statements in Chisinau today.
The Slovenian official in Chisinau has scheduled meetings with more officials and gave a news conference jointly with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
The president of Slovenia’s National Assembly said that this visit was a symbol of the good friendship relation between the peoples and institutions from the two countries and was meant to strengthen the relations both between the legislative bodies and between the states, in general. The official gave assurances that his country would provide Moldova with assistance and support and would be with it on the European integration road.
„This is an important visit, as we want to help you on your European integration way. And this is an opportunity to cooperate to this end. We provide you with our assistance and support and we stand with you on the European integration way. We hope that this process will end as soon as possible,’’ Urška Klakočar Zupančič said.
The Slovenian official noted that she discussed with the Moldovan parliament speaker also the situation in Ukraine.
„Slovenia is a peaceful country and we want the reaching of a sustainable peace in Ukraine, based on the UNO principles. We observe and we want everybody to observe the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. They are important for us, the peace negotiations on Ukraine are important and Ukraine should be part of all these negotiations, which will affect Moldova too. We also referred to the need that the European Union’s enlargement should comprise also the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine, which follow the same fundamental values and without which this process would not be complete,’’ the president of the Slovenian National Assembly stressed.
The official of Slovenia congratulated the citizens of Moldova on the results of the referendum on the European integration and the presidential elections from the last autumn. She said that the outcomes of these two electoral exercises, ‘’prove to Europe the country’s wish to preserve and promote the development on a European way.’’
For his part, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said that Slovenia had an experience of more than 20 years of EU membership and was an example for Moldova, which relies on the experience and pieces of advice of Slovenia in the process of negotiation on the accession to EU. According to the parliament speaker, the cooperation between the two states will be fostered.
