Speaker rejects claims about alleged arms production in Moldova

Speaker Igor Grosu rejects the statements made by leader of Democracy at Home party Vasile Costiuc regarding an alleged arms production in the Republic of Moldova. He described the information as “lies”.

During a TV show on TVR MOLDOVA, the official emphasized that prior to the current government, there were individuals who “brokered such transactions.”

“The law enforcement bodies have eliminated these intermediaries, have established direct contracts or direct links with the producers, within a legal framework. Obviously, this ruined their business. Some of them also own properties in Crimea, in the illegally occupied territories, and feel compelled by Kremlin propaganda to come out in public,” stated Grosu.

The Speaker also referred to the existence of an initiative to produce civilian armaments in Ungheni, within a legal framework.

“Since we have a company that produces—in this case, the company in Ungheni—which has obtained a contract, it creates jobs here, it will sell something on the local market or export it. These are jobs for our citizens. They are doing it within a legal framework. But this is where lies come in—the favorite tool of the ‘sovereigntists’,” Igor Grosu noted.

Costiuc stated in the middle of this week that the authorities had allegedly allowed the construction of an arms factory on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, a fact which, in his view, turns the country “into a legitimate target of the Russian Federation.”

Following the statements, the Public Services Agency clarified that in order to be able to make investments in the armaments for civilian use, investors must strictly comply with the legal procedure, and any claim regarding the approval of a military arms factory is unfounded. The institution reiterated that the current legislation strictly limits private investors’ access to the production of military armaments, in order to protect national security.
