Talks in Chișinău on law to combat electoral corruption
Speaker Igor Grosu met in Chișinău with Venice Commission rapporteurs Veronika Bílková and Srdjan Dermanovic, who are on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova in the context of drafting the opinion on Law no. 100/2025, which aims to combat electoral corruption and related phenomena.
During the meeting, the officials discussed the provisions of the legislative act and the mechanisms intended to prevent the illegal influence of electoral processes. Grosu emphasized that in recent years the Republic of Moldova has faced coordinated attempts to corrupt the electoral process.
He noted that the authorities consider it necessary to adopt legislation that would provide state institutions with effective tools to prevent and combat such actions in the future.
At the same time, Igor Grosu stated that the Republic of Moldova attaches major importance to the role and opinions of the Venice Commission in evaluating draft legislation, especially those concerning sensitive areas such as electoral processes and the rule of law.
A delegation of rapporteurs from the Venice Commission is paying a fact-finding visit to the Republic of Moldova on 4 - 5 February.
