Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/ - The National Unity Party (PUN) at its extraordinary congress has ruled to merge with the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM). At the same time, Alexandru Cimbriciuc was elected PUN’s president.

In a joint statement, the two formations informed that the ‘’decision to merge was taken as a result of the need to strengthen the Romanian and European pole of Moldova.’’

„PLDM and PUN started discussions to carry out the merger and prepare the political programme, proceeding from the economic, social and political needs of the society,’’ the document reads.

Also, PLDM said that it welcomed PUN’s decision on unification, in order to consolidate and develop the Romanian and the European integration vector.
