Agreement entered into force: driver's licences issued by Moldova, Greece to be mutually recognized

The citizens of Moldova, as well as of Greece will be able to exchange the driver’s licence without taking theoretical or practical exams. The agreement entered into force on 6 March, this year.

According to Moldova’s Embassy in Greece, during a meeting between Ambassador Andrei Popov and the director of the A5 Department of the Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry, Dimitris Michalopoulos, a Verbal Note was handed, notifying about the fact that, once the domestic procedure of ratification by the Greek side finished, the Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Greece on Mutual Recognition and Conversion of Driver’s Licences entered into force starting from 6 March, this year.

„The Embassy will organize meetings with Diaspora representatives from Greece, in order to provide procedural explanations on the provisions of the concerned document and ways in which our citizens can benefit from it,’’ the Embassy of Moldova in Greece said.

On 4 September 2024, the Moldovan government approved the Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Greece on mutual recognition and conversion of driver’s licences, compiled in Athens on 2 July 2024.

Under the document, the international road movement will be facilitated, allowing drivers to legally drive in the two states. The driver’s licences will be converted without the compulsoriness to take a theoretical or practical exam.

Moldova has also signed treaties on mutual recognition of driver’s licences with Turkey, Italy, Spain, France, Albania, Lithuania, as well as joint declaration of intent with Germany on the transcription of the driver’s licences.
