ARBOM organizes event dedicated to women in Taraclia for second consecutive year

The Association for the Development of the Bulgarian Community of Moldova (ARBOM) organized, for the second consecutive year, the traditional Bulgarian celebration “Babin den” in Taraclia, an event dedicated to women and their role in the community, as well as to preserving the Bulgarian cultural heritage in Moldova.

The event brought together women from education, culture, healthcare, business, and local public life and was marked by extensive organization and strict adherence to traditions. A defining element of the celebration was the mandatory wearing of Bulgarian folk or authentic costumes, which gave the event a pronounced identity-focused character.

The programme began with the traditional ritual honoring the midwife (“baba”), a symbol of birth and the continuity of life, while the atmosphere was enriched by heritage items and authentic photo decorations provided by the museum institutions in Taraclia. The central symbol of the celebration was, according to tradition, a cradle with an infant, as a sign of life and the fundamental role of women in society.

Director of the Association Alexandr Borimecicov said that ARBOM’s mission went beyond simply organizing cultural events.

“We don’t just organize celebrations; we keep alive the traditions that define our identity. The Bulgarian community lives compactly in Moldova, and its unity must be protected and passed on to future generations. We want to show that we are a living, strong and united part of the Moldovan society,” Borimecicov emphasized.

The ARBOM director highlighted the special role of Taraclia in the life of Bulgarians of Moldova, noting that such events strengthen the relation between generations and reinforce community cohesion. His presence at the celebration, together with his family, was perceived by participants as a symbol of continuity and of personal involvement in community’s life.

During the event, ARBOM awarded certificates of appreciation to some participants for their contribution to community’s development, and all invited women received symbolic gifts from the association. The evening concluded with an artistic performance by singer Valentin Uzun, which also included songs in the Bulgarian language.

According to the organizers, the holding of ‘’Babin den’’ in Taraclia confirms ARBOM’s consistent direction of investing in the preservation of traditions, strengthening the unity of the Bulgarian community and promoting Bulgarian culture in Moldova.
