BTA: Bulgarian Community Council Meets in Taraclia, Adopts 2026 Action Plan

The Managing Board of the Bulgarian Community in the Republic of Moldova (BORM) held a meeting on January 24 in Taraclia, where members reviewed the organization’s activities for the past year and approved its work plan for 2026.

The meeting took place at the conference hall of the Taraclia branch of Angel Kanchev University of Ruse and was chaired by BORM President Georgi Barbarov. A special guest was Stepan Karamalak, head of the Taraclia District External Relations Service.

According to Secretary Nina Topalova, the 2026 plan focuses on preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture, language, and traditions, protecting the interests of the Bulgarian community in Moldova, and strengthening cooperation with educational and cultural institutions.

A key priority for the coming year will be advocacy related to Moldova’s administrative-territorial reform and the status of Taraclia District. BORM plans meetings with Moldovan authorities, as well as representatives of Bulgaria and the European Parliament, to defend the interests of the local Bulgarian population.

The organization also outlined a busy cultural and educational agenda, including participation in major commemorations and national holidays, support for Bulgarian language education, involvement in the national Bulgarian language contests, and initiatives linked to Slavic literacy and Bulgarian heritage. Plans also include seeking sponsors to support the publication of works by Bulgarian authors and poets from Moldova.

BORM membership is open to both individuals and organizations, with branches of the association operating across Moldova where Bulgarian communities live. The association works in accordance with Moldovan law and aims to safeguard the cultural identity, civic engagement, and rights of Bulgarians in the country.
