Chișinău schools not to operate on Monday
Educational activities in primary and secondary education institutions in the municipality of Chișinău will be suspended on Monday, January 26, 2026, for grades I–XII, due to the worsening weather conditions. The missed lessons will be made up during the semester, according to decisions taken by each institution individually.
The decision was taken this evening during a meeting of the specialized services of the Chișinău City Hall, in the context of widespread black ice formation, an increased risk of slipping and injuries, as well as the danger posed by broken trees. Municipal authorities specify that the measure is intended to protect the safety of students, teaching staff, and parents. The suspended educational activities are to be recovered later, according to a schedule that will be communicated by the educational institutions.
The General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports of the Chișinău City Hall urges parents and students to avoid non-essential travel and to exercise maximum caution. Previously, the Ministry of Education and Research announced that the way the educational process is organized is the responsibility of each institution and the relevant local authorities, depending on the specific situation on the ground.
The Ministry stressed that the absolute priority must be the safety and health of students and teaching staff, in the context of the risks associated with travel in conditions of black ice and icy surfaces. The recommendations are based on meteorological warnings about unfavorable conditions in several regions of the country, which may affect road and pedestrian traffic and safe access to schools.
