Complicated weather conditions with wind, precipitation, black ice: Moldova's Crisis Management Center issues recommendations for citizens

Weather conditions will worsen in the coming hours, with strong winds, precipitation, black ice and icy surfaces, which may make movement on sidewalks and public roads more difficult. Under these conditions, the National Crisis Management Center (CNMC) has issued a string of recommendations for citizens.

People are urged to move with increased caution on sidewalks and in public spaces, to wear season-appropriate footwear and to reduce non-essential travel, especially during periods of pronounced black ice.

At the same time, drivers are urged to reduce speed, keep a safe distance and avoid sudden maneuvers.

It is also recommended to avoid exposure to or movement under power lines, trees or unstable structures, as strong winds can cause cables or branches to fall.

If fallen power lines are detected, citizens are warned not to touch them and to notify the authorities. In risk situations, people can call the 112 service.

Local public authorities are encouraged to request support from central public authorities, if they cannot cope with the weather conditions, in order to protect the population and maintain access to critical facilities.

Meteorologists today issued a Yellow Code warning for black ice and icy surfaces for February 4-6. Air temperatures close to 0 degrees Celsius, combined with rain or snow, will favor the formation of black ice and icy surfaces on the roadway.
