
Cyber attack on government infrastructure
The Information Technology and Cyber Security Service (STISC) of the Republic of Moldova has launched an investigation into a cybersecurity incident attributed to a foreign actor, targeting the country's government infrastructure.
According to STISC, national authorities are collaborating to analyze the attack, and some employees are suspected of complicity and will be suspended during the investigation.
The investigation, initiated by STISC in partnership with other competent institutions, targets an organized attack from outside, described as an attempt to sabotage the state's essential cyber systems.
“A service investigation will be launched regarding some employees, whose actions are being examined under suspicion of involvement in these illegal activities,” institution's press release reads.
The individuals will be suspended from their positions until the procedures are completed to ensure the integrity of the process.
The Government of the Republic of Moldova emphasized its strong commitment to protecting national cybersecurity. “We will continue to act to prevent potential cyber attacks on state infrastructure,” the authorities state, highlighting the importance of strengthening digital defense measures in the context of increasing global threats.
No additional details have been provided yet regarding the identity of the foreign actor involved or the extent of the damages caused by the incident. Cybersecurity experts warn that such attacks can affect essential public services, such as administrative, financial, or health services, and Moldova has faced similar threats in the past, often attributed to rival geopolitical entities.
