President at swearing-in of Munteanu Cabinet
New government led by Alexandru Munteanu has the mission to accelerate the transformation of the Republic of Moldova into a modern European state, President Maia Sandu stated at the cabinet's swearing-in ceremony.
In her speech, the head of state emphasized that the government should focus on efficiency, integrity, and improving the quality of public policies and services.
"We need governance that prioritizes development, attracts investment, and increases the economy's competitiveness. This is the only way we can raise the standard of living for people and strengthen the rule of law," said Maia Sandu.
The president reiterated the importance of continuing previously initiated reforms such as in justice, education, public administration, and energy security. She also demanded that local infrastructure, afforestation, and modernization of schools and hospitals be implemented as a priority so that citizens can feel tangible benefits from the first stage of governance.
"This is a path that will require perseverance, organization, and collaboration between institutions. The workload is unprecedented, but every sustainable reform is built step by step, brick by brick. Before the government lies a country waiting for concrete results," the president emphasized.
"In parallel, we must continue programs that transform our localities – afforestation, waste management, investments in infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and roads. Only then will people regain confidence that it's worth building their future here in Moldova, where they have perspective, safety, and hope," added Maia Sandu.
Finally, the head of state also conveyed a message of gratitude to the previous government:
"I want to thank the government team that has completed its mandate. The government led by Mr. Dorin Recean maintained peace, defended democracy, and the safety of the citizens, achieved important development programs for the country and localities, and made history through the passing of the referendum on European integration. I know the efforts and sacrifices behind these achievements, and I thank all the ministers."
The cabinet of ministers led by Alexandru Munteanu took the oath of office today, with the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in the Republic of Moldova, in the presence of Maia Sandu and speaker Igor Grosu.
Munteanu government will have 14 ministries and five deputy prime ministers, two of whom without portfolio – for European Integration and Reintegration. The government team includes both new names and incumbents maintaining their positions from the previous cabinet.
According to the Constitution, based on the vote of confidence granted by the Legislature, the President of the Republic of Moldova appoints the government, which exercises its duties from the day its members take the oath before the head of state.
