
Head of Moldovan assets recovery agency appointed to office
Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - Otilia Nicolai today was appointed to the office of head of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (ARBI) following a public contest.
According to data by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), the new head of the Agency is a criminal prosecution officer at CNA with a 14-year-long work in the sector. Nicolai got the largest number of points at tests of the contest, out of the three candidates.
The contest commission was made up of nine members, among whom representatives of the civil society, academic environment, independent experts, antic-corruption prosecutors and CNA representatives.
After all procedures are over, the new head is to make her team, due to be made up of criminal prosecution officers, experts and specialists in the fields of accountancy and audit, special investigation officers, specialists in other sectors, in order to fulfill the powers of the institution.
Under the legislation, ARBI will carry out financial investigations, will assess and manage the distrained property gained by illegal means, will keep its record and will negotiate the repatriation of its value.
