Medical students organized flashmob - Don't Miss a Beat to promote heart health
Fourth-year students from the Faculty of Medicine No. 1 of "Nicolae Testemiţanu" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy organized a flashmob "Don't Miss a Beat." Through the action, the young people promoted the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, through dance, in the context of World Heart Day.
Additionally, the medical students handed out apples to passersby and asked them to identify habits that influence heart health, determined their blood pressure indices and blood oxygen saturation through pulse oximetry. In this way, the future doctors conveyed messages promoting a healthy lifestyle for a strong and functional heart.
Snejana Vetrilă, a university lecturer in the Cardiology Department at the Department of Internal Medicine, emphasized that the medical students drew the public's attention to the prevention of major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, the most important prophylactic measure being the promotion of a healthy lifestyle throughout life, especially through active movement, stress reduction and quitting smoking and alcohol.
The event showcased two artistic works: a heart-shaped metal construction created by Dorin Nebunu and the painting "The Heart in the Artist's Vision," signed by Anastasia Abilova, a fourth-year student.
According to the National Statistics Bureau, in 2024, over 19,000 deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases were recorded in the Republic of Moldova, accounting for 57.6% of the total number of deaths.
