Moldova's airspace overflown by two drones

Two drones loaded with explosives flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on 12 February evening. The drones exploded near the localities in Taraclia and Ceadîr-Lunga districts, according to the Border Police.  No one was injured in the explosion.

“Last night, following a massive drone attack on the port of Reni, Ukraine, border police patrols reported several drones of this type crossing the territory of the Republic of Moldova. One of the drones fell on an agricultural field near the village of Ciumai, Taraclia district,” the Border Police statement said.

The region was isolated, and the competent authorities are examining the remains of the drone, the border authorities mention.

Another drone exploded in a field in the area located between the city of Ceadîr-Lunga - Valea Perjei. The police located it 1.5 kilometers from Ceadîr-Lunga. The area was isolated and all necessary investigations are being conducted.

After the Russian attack recorded Wednesday evening at 23:05 by the SPF Cismichioi employees, the activity of Reni-Giurgiulești border crossing point was suspended and all employees were evacuated to Giurgiulești.

The Border Police notes that last night, along the border with Ukraine in the southern direction (SPF Giurgiulești, SPF Cismichioi, SPF Vulcănești, SPF Copceac, SPF Valea Perjei, SPF Basarabeasca), several explosions were observed on the Ukrainian territory.

At 01:30, the operational activities of the Giurgiulești-Reni crossing point were resumed.

On February 3, the Ministry of Defense announced that it detected “an unmanned aerial vehicle” that violated the airspace of the Republic of Moldova.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, authorities have reported over 20 cases of airspace violations by Russian drones or missiles.
