New director at Teleradio-Moldova Company: Ecaterina Cheptanaru wins competition

Journalist and TV producer Ecaterina Cheptanaru has won the competition for the position of director general of the Teleradio-Moldova Company (TRM), held on September 22. Cheptanaru was selected from three candidates, after Andrei Zapsa withdrew from the competition, reports Moldova 1.

Ecaterina Cheptanaru is a journalist and TV producer with more than 10 years of experience in the media industry. She holds a degree in political science and a master’s degree in International Relations and Institutional Communication. She has held more positions in television and, since 2025, has served as TRM’s deputy director general, responsible for television.

The TRM Supervisory Council selected the new director from among three candidates, after Andrei Zapsa withdrew from the competition today morning. Dorin Scobioala, Ecaterina Cheptanaru, Sergiu Sandulescu and Andrei Zapsa had been admitted to the interview stage.

The competition was postponed in July, after the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) had requested additional checks. In August, the SIS informed the Supervisory and Development Council about the existence of “risk factors” in the cases of Sergiu Sandulescu and Andrei Zapsa. The two were questioned by the Council, which subsequently ruled to readmit them to the competition.

The position of TRM director general became vacant, after the resignation of Vlad Turcanu, announced on May 18, 2026. He had held the position since December 2021 and subsequently served as acting director.
