Number of households receiving compensation for heating increase in Moldova in last January

The number of households receiving compensation for heating in last January increased to 622,000 eligible families, compared to over 605,000 in December 2025. Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru today unveiled data to this effect.

"For January, we have 622,000 eligible households. There has been an increase in the number of eligible households starting from November, when we had 605,000 households, and in January the figure grew by almost 15,000 eligible households," said Natalia Plugaru.

Of the total number of eligible households, the largest share is held by those that heat with firewood, numbering 223,000. Another 175,000 families heat with gas, 109,000 with district heating and 45,000 households use electricity as their main heating way.

Natalia Plugaru specified that the budget for providing compensations in last January was 469 million lei.

Beneficiaries of the compensations will receive the money on their bank cards or at post offices.

The Help at the Meter programme has been offering, for the fourth consecutive year, energy compensation to vulnerable households for the November–March period. The compensations are offered as monetary payments, disbursed monthly.

People who have not yet submitted applications to request compensation may still do so, but they will not receive compensation for previous months. If the application is submitted after the 25th of the month, compensations will be granted starting from the following month.
