Number of Moldovans migrating for work decreases
The number of people migrating for work is decreasing. In 2019, approximately 140,000 people were not employed in the labor market, because they were working or planning to work abroad, while by 2024, this number decreased to 112,000. Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu has unveiled data to this effect, on the occasion of marking the International Labor Day.
According to the official, the employment rate during the mandate of this government has increased. Thus, in 2019, the employment rate was 40.1 per cent, while in 2024 it stood at 42.7 per cent.
“The employment rate for women, especially mothers, has increased during the mandate of this government. In 2019, the employment rate for women was 36.5 per cent, and in 2024 it stood at 40 per cent. In 2019, the employment rate for women aged 25-49, with at least one child aged 0-6 years, was 39.4 per cent, while in 2024 it was 50.7 per cent,” said Alexei Buzu.
The minister emphasized that, during the mandate of this government, there were fewer young people who do not benefit from training, education or employment.
“In 2019, about 30.8 per cent of young people aged 15-34 did not benefit from training, education or employment, while in 2024 - 25.4 per cent. The number of people working without proper contracts has also decreased. In 2019, approximately 49,000 people worked without a work contract, while in 2024 – over 39,000. All these positive changes have occurred despite years full of external shocks and difficulties. The Economic Growth Plan will help us create even more decent and well-paid jobs for our citizens,” said Alexei Buzu.
