VIDEO // Moldova's National Army marks 35 years since establishment; Defence minister: “Our mission stays the same – to protect peace”

The National Army marks 35 years since its establishment today. On this occasion, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii has conveyed a message of gratitude to the military personnel, civilian employees, veterans and everyone who contributed to the institution’s creation and development.

Anatolie Nosatii noted that this year’s anniversary was being held under the slogan, For 35 years, we have been an army, which, according to the minister, is more than a festive message and reflects the people who make up the National Army.

“It is about the people at the institution, women and men who are on duty at home and abroad, carrying out every mission with passion and dedication. It is equally about those who do not wear a military uniform but who, through their professionalism and involvement, contribute every day to the development and strengthening of the National Army,” the minister said.

The defense minister thanked military veterans, personnel in the reserve or retirement, families, friends, colleagues from other armies and representatives of civil society who support the institution.

According to Anatolie Nosatii, over its 35 years of existence, the National Army has undergone transformations and become a modern and respected institution.

“The National Army today is a modern and respected institution. I thank you all because, together, we have managed to develop and transform it. Thanks to these efforts, since Independence Day, the National Army has changed, but our mission stays the same: to protect peace, stand by citizens and provide support wherever we are needed. Through our participation in international missions, we also bring the name of Moldova to the world and demonstrate that our country can contribute to the shared commitment to maintaining peace and security, alongside external partners. For 35 years, we have been an army—an army built for people through trust and solidarity. And for 35 years, we have also been a team. Our work must continue with the same determination and consistency, for the good of the National Army, for the safety of the country and its citizens. Happy anniversary, National Army!” the minister said.

On the occasion of National Army Day, an event for the public will be held on September 5, starting at 10:00 a.m., in Alunelul Park in the Buiucani district of the capital. The schedule will include a concert performed by the Presidential Orchestra of Moldova and special guests, interactive activities, an exhibition of military equipment and hardware, as well as demonstrations by special forces. Visitors will be able to take part in the special forces’ zipline and military shooting activities, and the event will conclude with the traditional soldiers’ lunch.

National Army Day is annually celebrated on September 3. The institution was established in 1991, shortly after the proclamation of Moldova’s Independence.
