Pressure of wave of Ukrainian refugees dropped in Moldovan capital
Chisinau, March 15 / MOLDPRES /- The head of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Health of the Chisinau Municipal Council, Boris Gîlcă, presented at today's CMC meeting the measures taken by the capital's authorities in managing the wave of refugees from Ukraine.
“The municipal authorities helped over 16,000 people from Ukraine who passed through the MoldExpo Refugee Sorting Center and then were accommodated in the 44 placement centers organized by the municipality in the capital. At this moment, the pressure of the wave of refugees has decreased, there is a relative decrease in their number in the capital ", said Gâlcă.
According to the official, the municipal authorities provide for a period of 90 days the accommodation and food of the refugees who requested the placement in the placement centers. Gălcă mentioned that more than half of the total number of Ukrainian citizens who crossed the borders of the Moldovan state - over 200 thousand - were in transit through Chisinau. "About one hundred thousand are still on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. However, there are assessments that speak of a new wave of refugees that could appear ", specified Gâlcă.
In this context, the municipal official requested an increase in the level of collaboration between central and local authorities for a better management of the next wave of refugees. "We are confident that the central authorities will reimburse the expenses incurred by the Chisinau City Hall in managing the refugees," Gâlcă said.
