Base rate on main monetary policy operations maintained at 5 percent
The base rate on short-term main monetary policy operations is maintained at the level of 5 percent. The decision was taken today by the Executive Committee of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM).
By the same decision, the overnight credit rate was maintained at 7.00 percent annually, for repo operations at 5.25 percent, and for overnight deposits at 3.00 percent annually.
The NBM emphasized that it adopted the decision in the context of major international turmoil caused by the war in the Middle East. International quotations for energy resources have reached a high level and may affect global economic activity, with negative effects on the global inflationary process, the NBM notes.
At the same time, the decision is adopted taking into account previous monetary policy measures, including their transmission lags, and aims to ensure and maintain medium-term inflation within the variation band of ±1.5 percentage points from the 5.0 percent target.
According to NBM data, annual inflation stood at 5.06 percent, 0.22 percentage points higher than in the previous month, being close to the medium-term inflation target of 5.0 percent.
The next meeting of the NBM Executive Committee on this topic is scheduled for 7 May 2026.
