Moldovan PM, president of Council of International Civil Aviation Organization discuss developing relevant sector in Moldova

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today had a meeting with President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Toshiyuki Onuma. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation between Moldova and ICAO, modernizing the civil aviation sector and integrating it into the European aeronautical area.

The PM emphasized that the development of civil aviation was of strategic importance for Moldova, contributing directly to enhancing the country’s connectivity, developing the economy and tourism, attracting investment and facilitating citizens’ mobility. Key goals include modernizing the Chisinau International Airport, developing infrastructure in the field and digitizing services for passengers.

In the context, the prime minister expressed Moldova’s interest in expanding cooperation with ICAO, including in the areas of strengthening institutional capacities, training specialists, digitization, new technologies and sustainable aviation.

For his part, ICAO Council’s President Toshiyuki Onuma expressed openness to continuing cooperation with Moldova and to supporting the authorities’ efforts to modernize the civil aviation sector.

The official praised our country’s commitment to advancing the implementation of international standards in the field and confirmed ICAO’s readiness to support, through its instruments and programmes, the strengthening of institutional capacities, the development of skills of specialists in the sector, as well as efforts to enhance the safety and security of civil aviation.
