Performance of Moldovan athletes at Olympic Games in Paris
Chisinau, Aug 12 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has won four medals at the Olympic Games in Paris, the first time in the country's history that our athletes have won so many medals at the Summer Olympics, and some of them have managed to write history for Moldovan sport.
With four medals, one silver and three bronze, the Republic of Moldova ranked 72nd among 206 countries participating in the Paris Olympics.
Thus, Moldova won four medals for the first time since it participated in the Olympic Games with a separate delegation, twice as many as in 1996 and 2000.
In the medals ranking, the Republic of Moldova was ahead of countries such as Slovakia, Albania, Peru and Qatar. The US delegation came first.
Silver medallist Anastasia Nichita became the first sportswoman from the Republic of Moldova to win an Olympic medal in women's wrestling, as well as judoka Denis Vieru and Adil Osmanov were the first representatives of our country to stand on the Olympic podium in this sport. And Sergei Tarnovschi wins the second bronze medal of his career.
The Ministry of Education and Research has expressed gratitude and appreciation to the athletes, coaches and technical staff who represented our country at the XXXIII Olympic Games, hosted by Paris.
The next Summer Olympic Games will be held in four years in Los Angeles, USA.
