Soroca city hosts National Festival of Apple
Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - The 12th edition of the National Festival of Apple is held in the northern Soroca city.
The festival’s visitors will be able to admire an exhibition of apples’ producers, exhibition of planting material and an exhibition of popular craftsmen, organized nearby the Soroca Fortress. The schedule of the event comprises also a parade of national costumes and games for children and young people. The festival will culminate with a music show given by the Plăieșii ethnic and folk band, Band Orchestra of the Soroca District Council, folk and dance bands from Soroca.
The festival’s goal is to popularize and develop the agrarian sector, promote the native producers of apples, as well as the business specialized in modern technologies of apples’ processing and production of planting material of fruit trees.
The event is organized by the Soroca District Council, the Soroca Branch of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, jointly with economic agents from Moldova and the central competent authorities.
The Soroca district, called also the apple’s capital, is regarded as the district with the biggest area of apple orchards in Moldova. Specialists of the Moldova Fruct Association forecast for 2023 a harvest of apples of about 548,000 tons, which is by 23 per cent more against the 2022 year, but by 4 per cent less against the average harvest of the last five years. While in 2020, Moldovan apples were exported to 11 countries, in 2022, they reached 30 destinations. In the beginning of this year, Moldovan apples were exported to India and Sweden for the first time ever.
Presently, more settlements of Moldova are hosts of festivals dedicated to different products and traditional activities for Moldova. Thus, in Moldova, there are festivals of potatoes, strawberries, flowers, grapes, small trees, pumpkins, fishers, honey, plums, peaches, etc.
