Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Lucian Blaga theoretical lyceum from the Iargara town, southern Leova district, has been renovated within the Education Reform in Moldova project, implemented by the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) and financially backed by the World Bank. The renovation and modernization of education institutions, according to MECC, is one of the activities meant to improve the conditions for learning in the schools from Moldova and to contribute to the promotion of efficient reforms in the education sector.

The Lucian Blaga lyceum from Iargara was restored from funds allocated by the competent ministry. This was possible due to the project financed from the loan provided by the World Bank. Also, MECC earmarked financial means to buy furniture, needed equipment for the laboratories of physics, chemistry, biology, as well as the linguo-phone classrooms.

“Over 400 children from the Iargara town and the nearby settlements presently benefit from conditions for learning in line with the education standards. The rehabilitation of the district schools’ infrastructure and their endowment according to the standards of ensuring quality is one MECC’s priorities,’’ a state secretary at this ministry, Natalia Griu, has said.

Pupils from nearby villages, Baius, Meseni, Hanasenii de Padure, Tigheci, come to study at the Lucian Blaga lyceum from Iargara. The buildings where the school is placed were built in 1954 and 1964. Till the renovation, the institution was in a lamentable state.

„Walls were grinding, the roof was leaking, the heating was quite poor. Now, all conditions are created for holding classes. The classrooms are clean, dry and warm. More and more children come to study at school. While in 2017, we had 391 pupils, now there are 427. The renovation, modernization of the school is also a motivation for teachers to remain at this institution, as earlier we have had cases when teachers were willing to leave this school because of the precarious conditions,’’ the headmaster of the Lucian Blaga theoretical lyceum from Iargara, Raisa Ivanov, said.

No objections were filed in the process of reception of the school. According to the lyceum’s administration and local public authorities’ representatives, the contracting companies have carried out qualitative works.

The Lucian Blaga lyceum is the only education institution from Iargara. The reconstruction process lasted one year and a half. The renovation of the block of the junior school cost over eight million lei and the reconstruction of the lyceum’s building was estimated at more than 15 million lei. Following the restoration, the school became more known in the district. It is an important object for the development of our town on the whole,’’ the Iargara mayor, Eugeniu Mutaf, said.

The restoration of district schools, selected within the Education Reform in Moldova project, will continue this year too. Eight education institutions from Moldova will be renovated through the Social Investments Fund in 2020.
